Can I share another experience with you?

The past few weeks have been like living in a wilderness for me, as I have not received as many revelations as I normally do. The irony is that one of my favourite pieces of scripture is Isaiah 50:4,

The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue,
to know the word that sustains the weary.
He wakens me morning by morning,
wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.

So you an imagine how frustrated I was as
somehow God seemed silent to me.  I was really bothered. I could not figure out what was wrong as I was doing all the things I knew to do. I was obeying God as best as I knew. I am sure that some of you can relate to this.

In desperation, I asked the Holy Spirit to help me out of my frustration. Bang! I was back on track. It was not the assistance of the Holy Sprit (as important as that was) that was impressed on me but the lesson I was to learn from this experience. God was trying to recapture something from me – a focus back to the most important commandment in the scriptures.

Jesus said to him, “‘you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. Matthew 22:37The truth expressed here is something that a lot of us already know but sometimes it is good to be reminded intermittently.

As Christians involved in the marketplace, we are very busy people. In addition, we put in so much effort into our various ministries on Sundays, not to talk of catching up with life on Saturdays.

I began to realise that whilst all of my ‘service’ is good and pleasing to God, what is really important – the greatest commandment -is to love God with all our heart, mind and soul. It is to passionately fall in love with Him.

As I began to reflect more on this, I realised that love and pleases God. Love is actually more important than obedience because for us Christians, we obey from a heart of love. After all, a lot of us obey people that we don’t necessarily love or like. The fact that we obey the scriptures, whilst highly commended, is not the same as having a passion for God

As my mind was captivated by this love, I realised that I had put a lot of good things ahead of loving God. The things I am talking about could actually be considered Christian service and somehow these things had even be a substitute for loving God Himself.

Our greatest passion is to love God. Jesus described this as the greatest commandment. We can do no better than giving this first place in our lives.

Hope this week’s post has been a blessing so until I appear again in your inbox, stay blessed

Ola
